Rwanda: E-commerce workshops support development of a future-proof business model

April 13, 2023

Through the special initiative, “Decent Work for a Just Transition”, GIZ funds the “Enabling the Future of e-commerce” project. The aim of this e-commerce project in Rwanda is to develop a future-proof business model for the successful and sustained operations of the Kigali-based E-Commerce Centre and the affiliated e-commerce marketplace RwandaMart.rw. The Special Initiative “Decent Work for a Just Transition” aims to assist SMEs onboarded onto the platform by offering support mechanisms and activities that will help them have a high impact on employment in Rwanda.

Through its Business Growth Training Programme, the project conducted two workshops from 3-4 April and 5-6 April 2023. Fifty SMEs took part in the business growth programme with instruction on strategies to increase online and offline sales, which can translate into the creation of more, decent jobs. The workshops were divided into two cohorts of 25 participants each.

The “Enabling the future of e-commerce in Rwanda” project, launched by our GOPA expert team and consortium partners Companion D, OTB Africa and Oakright LTD in early 2021,  aims to support the establishment of a private-public partnership to operate an online marketplace for domestic and cross border sales of mainly ‘Made in Rwanda’ products.
